My interest in Oriental art began when I
spent 2 years in Hong Kong in 1953, I had quite a collection of
Chinese artefacts, but was unable to bring them back, being limited
to the amount of luggage I was allowed to bring home, during my time
in her Majesties Forces.
Many years later, I gained 'A' and 'O' levels
in Western Art, and I was inspired to move back to my first love of
the Chinese Art, which I don't think has ever left me.
The beautiful hand made paper, organic pigments
and wonderful flexible brushes, all contribute to the sensuousness
of the art form. The use of space is an essential element of the
composition, allowing the viewers imagination to grow and move
through the scene, this creates a sense of energy, yet still
maintaining the feeling of serenity. It is a careful but relaxing
work, but it does require a reasonable co-ordination of hand and
eye. Once you appreciate this, you can come to terms with the spirit
of the subject, and you really feel part of the scene.
I spent five years studying at Goole Collage,
After gaining 3 credits at level one, in Chinese brush painting,
I visited China in 2002, on a six week
cultural tour, visiting Chinese schools, teaching the children, also
meeting and working with many professional artists, such as Zhang Yi
Fan, and Yu Xi Ling. I have also studied in the following places,
Beijing, Xian, and the Institute of traditional Chinese Painting,
Research and Cultural tour, Zhong Shan cultural tour, and the Suzhon
University Middle School. I have also studied under Mary Tang,
Qu.Lei.Lei, kaili Fu & Chi Xial.
I am employed as a professional tutor for the
Society of All Artists, and have taken on the role of South
Yorkshire Regional Coordinator. I have considerable experience as a
tutor of Chinese Brush Painting, at the following establishments.
I've also worked at York Museum, Derby
University, Beetroot tree farm, and Horncastle College Lincs.
